(INDIGENOUS CHILD POPULATION IN LATIN AMERICA CASE OF THE DOS ERRE MASSACRE V. ECUADOR BEFORE THE INTER-AMERICAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS)

Abstract

The issue of this essay is focused on exposing the situation experienced by the indigenous child population in Latin America and the Caribbean. First, it briefly outlines some historical milestones in the evolution of the regulation of Human Rights (HR) regarding the indigenous child population. Afterwards, it references several international legal instruments which currently cover the rights of this population segment and the status of their progress. To conclude, the Case of the Dos Erres Massacre vs. Guatemala before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights will be presented: the current reality of indigenous children in the region will be explored through a methodological-practical approach, as well as the disposition of their rights and the role of international organizations and treaties in the defense of their Human Rights.
